All The Seasonal Vibes

Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte

Two weeks ago, SoCal experienced a “cold” snap and it sent me into allllll the autumnal vibes. Since then it’s blasted back up to over 90 degrees with really dry, icky air, so the mood’s shifted a bit, but I still can’t shake wanting to indulge in all the season shift / fall vibes.

How I’m Getting My Seasonal Autumn Vibes On:

  • Opening all of the windows as soon as the sun sets

  • Noticing and relaxing into earlier sunsets

  • Running an essential oil diffuser before bed

  • Making an orange and black count-down chain for Halloween, which includes one pink link to mark A’s birthday

  • Playing Animal Crossing (pumpkins! costumes! acorns!) and peeping seasonal island tours via Lex Play

  • Putting on jeans or a long sleeved shirt or socks and shoes. Any clothes layering beyond tank top and shorts is signs of SoCal autumn

  • Wearing my hair down

  • Roasting veggies and craving Indian food

  • Buying new shoes

  • Reading creepy, scary or autumnal books: Undead Girl Gang, Wilder Girls, and Mexican Gothic

  • Lighting candles at night or after I vacuum the house or while I’m working at my desk

  • Feeling into how/when my body wants to blog, write or journal

  • Drinking a Pumpkin Spice latte (indulgent and less and less worth the mental health spirals caffeine sends me through, but also, how can I not?!)

  • Booking our annual Thanksgiving trip to Disneyland

  • Listening to episode 112: Autumn Bucket List of A Beautiful Mess podcast is a great place to start for inspo

Other Fall Activities

Planning a few typical fall things like:

  • Decorating our house

  • Picking out Halloween costumes

  • Buying (and eating) Halloween candy

  • Bringing A to a pumpkin patch or two

  • Carving pumpkins

  • Buying, eating, baking, sipping any and all pumpkin, apple cider and maple related foods and drinks

  • Watching a few scary movies (I’m thinking The Craft, Practical Magic, Hocus Pocus, Beetlejuice and maybe even When Harry Met Sally)

Acknowledging Seasonal Shifts - Harvest Time

Because I follow the seasonal and moon cycles, my understanding of what I need during this time is dialed in. It’s partially why I know what I want to do with my time and what I’ll say “no” to (examples: no haunted hayrides, no Pinterest-type crafts, no baking anything from scratch and full permission to skip anything on the above list).

It’s become apparent to me that this time of year I go through an energy shift - I turn more internal and I also gain some energy, especially creative. So, this time of year is about creating, producing and focusing on what I want to accomplish before my energy turns towards the quieter winter season. Basically, this time of year feels 100% like harvest time for me. Whatever plans I started in the spring and put energy towards in the summer are now fully coming to fruition and my jump in energy allows me to make the most of this time.

I would love, love, love to know how you’re getting your seasonal vibes on and what is lighting you up this autumn in the comments below. And if you’d like to dive deeper this season into your own seasonal shifts, book an exploratory call with me.
