Podcast Roundup

podcastsThought you may want a peak into my podcast listening. Also, I figured I would love this list in a year or two when my tastes change (or don't hah).I listen to 4 to 7 hours of podcasts per week. I spend a lot of time alone and always get a boost from hearing a good conversation. Between the 2-3 dog walks per day and an LA commute (which is AH-MAZING compared to most peeps here), I knock the hours out. I also like listening to them while I run (weird, I know). My interests swing depending on my mood. I may be revved up and want to listen to something about productivity, humming along in work mode. Or, I may be super wiped out and want to listen to a soothing voice of encouragement.I'm drawn to well-produced (sound quality affects my interest greatly) shows that involve a conversation or highly skilled interview, and inspire me creatively. The below are organized by topic, but I've put an asterisk (*) next to my absolute favorites.Deep, long-form interviews:On Being with Krista Tippett* You can even listen to the uncut interviews, where you learn that Tippett really is that good - recommended episodes: Joe Henry or Mary Oliver. Also, their website is just gorgeousness.Fresh Air with Terry Gross* Another amazing interviewer - recommended episode: I haven't listened yet, but Toni Morrison was on yesterday. Pretty safe bet you can start there. The Nerdist* - Full disclaimer, I love Chris Hardwick - recommended episode: Tom Hanks Returns.Retrospective: The Podcast - Jen Lee* Jen isn't making this podcast anymore - recommended episode: Jonatha Brooke or Michael Nobbs.Reading Lives*Unmistakable CreativeSmart, interesting story-telling / journalism:RadiolabThe American LifeSerial* Not because of the trial or the outcome, but because Sarah Koenig created a story in real time that broke the 4th wall of podcasting.Creativity:Paperclipping Roundtable* Hands-down the podcast I love the most, and it's about scrapbooking. I know, right? But the hosts Noell and Izzy Hyman are enthusiastic, playful and inquisitive while bringing on smart, creative guests I love - recommended episodes: #239 Every Bit Of Them (about loss), #260 A Form of Self-Care, and #250 The Seasick Sailor (about genealogy). One Thing Today Helps me lower the bar and enjoy the present. Also Michael Nobbs has a British accent, which makes it even lovelier to listen to.Creative Living With Jamie* Jamie is nothing short of vibrant and enthusiastic while taking her guest's stories and expanding them into a big-picture view for listeners. Plus, I love her opening thoughts about a topic where she puts on her encouraging coaching hat.Magic Lessons Elizabeth Gilbert. That is all.Accidental CreativePocket TalkHippy shit:The Dirtbag DiariesPsychic TeachersProductivity:Back To Work* Productivity, anxiety, Mac hacks, comic books and two men who have so many inside jokes, the podcast has its own drinking game? Another serious fav, though I may be one of only 3 female listeners according to the hosts.Rebel CreativeElise Gets CraftyExplore Your EnthusiasmRaise Your Hand Say YesBooks:Book Riot* ALL THE BOOK TALKS AND HAPPENINGS. Especially love when the refer to Toni Morrison as ToMo. Two smart people discuss new books, literary news and lots of opinions about equality in the publishing market. Love.Live Story-telling:The MothFunny:Wait, Wait Don't Tell MeComedy Bang BangSmartest Man In The World - Greg ProopsFood:Good Food - Evan KleimanPop Culture:Nerdette
