This Grateful Season - Save The Date Video

Today we drove up to Malibu to film our "Save the Date" video. We had (4) people meet us - a dobro player, a photographer, and two film people.The weather forecast said rain. I hoped for none. What I didn't think about was wind. On our drive we realized that the wind would be the worst factor, completely ruining any mic's ability to pick up sound cleanly.My first reaction was frustration. We had people helping us on a Saturday, driving miles, and we needed to get this done soon, we couldn't just turn around and go home. I tried my hardest to stay calm and kept throwing options out, but I felt defeated before we began.Somehow we all managed to meet up and scouted out the area. H suggested one spot that seemed to work for our idea and also be protected from the wind. People contributed ideas and I tried to stay open to what was coming through. Any attachment I had to our original idea was pretty much dissolved - I was willing to wing it today just to get it finished.Amazingly, things fell into place quickly. Our dobro player was just late enough that the weather began to clear up. The photographer was excited by the light and colors. H suggested the new spot. Our film help worked through the path we would walk and we sang as best we could. Little by little it came together.In less than 2 hours we'd run through the song 4x and shot a bunch of photos. We have about 20min of video to work with, none of which I've looked at yet. After the success of the shoot, we headed to Marmalade Cafe, ate a ton of food, and promptly drove home to nap the afternoon away. It was a job well done, for sure.The day turned into another testament to what happens when I just stay in the moment. Whether the film is as a good as I hope or we need to edit it down and add in pictures to prop it up, maybe even re-record the music, today went as perfectly as it could. And I'm so proud of myself for just allowing it to happen.
