Library Haul - November 2015

library_nov15I think that our library check-out history is a little snapshot of our curiosities, where our mind is at, at any given time. This month my mind is on fiction, not just because of the darker days, but because of the magic of the season, wanting to escape a bit more and needing to relax deeply.I picked these books up while H's parents were in town. September's pile was a few days overdue so I suggested we all walk to the library. This is not normally an outing H would accompany me on - both walking and the library are not very entertaining for him, but his parents like to walk and were up for the errand.I read We Are Called To Rise first. It is a simple, engaging and quick read, telling an overlapping story of 4 character groups. Loved the details, the narration, and the feel that Las Vegas itself served as a 5th character. A solid little novel.Currently, I'm knee deep in State of Wonder and enjoying it immensely. Patchett is such a deep storyteller. Since I read Bel Canto earlier this year I'm joking that 2015 is the year of Ann Patchett (she also makes an appearance in Big Magic). Maybe I'll bang out This Is A Story Of A Happy Marriage before the Times Square ball drops to make it 2015 official.Curious about the John Irving novel. Irving is one of my favorite novelist - I love that he follows characters through their entire biographical timeline (and usually adds family information from prior to their birth), plus has a raunchy, New England sensibility around his stories. He's probably the author I've read the most books by - maybe 5?Have you read any of these? Would love to know what you think. And feel free to share what you're currently reading, I'm always looking for more books to add to my list!See all Library Haul posts.
