Big Magic: Resources 3

bigmagicacadiaIf I take one thing away from this book, I know it'll be "you must learn how to become a deeply disciplined half-ass."I'm trying to switch gears from strong-arming the productive version of how I think things should go (ahem, work meetings) to showing up with a sense of curiosity and observing how they go. It's remarkable how that shift allows me to be more present. And that's what it's all about, no?Lastly, I was chatting with my lovely friend Steph yesterday about how she's created an entire musical parody of the California Board of Nursing to the new Adele song (to be released Thursday!) and she said she had to make it to use her creativity. Just because. This coming from a woman who is in one of the most competitive accelerated bachelors of nursing programs. How awesome is that?READ:Jill continues to post insightful, honest responses to the reflection questions. (Thanks Jill!) Read her response to Persistence.Tiffany Han's Instagram feed where she writes encouraging words on Post-Its."Creativity is sacred, and it is not sacred" on A Design So Vast. From Gilbert's Facebook. This from Rumi and her Big Magic Monday post yesterday about approaching ourselves with gentleness:

The gentle creator says to herself on Day Three: "Darling, you're doing the best you can. You are merely a human being, like all other human beings. You are not a superstar, and you are not the lowest rat who ever lived...you are just one of us, just a person trying to live in peace with herself in the world. It doesn't matter if your work disappoints you — that's a very natural human response. Let's not take it so hard or so seriously, OK? We're going to continue being creative, because we know that creativity is interesting and good for us. Now put down the donuts, and turn off the reality television, and take that goddamn scrunchie out of your hair, and throw those limp and stinky pajamas into the laundry, and wash your face, and slap on some lipstick, and put on some dance music, and have a big drink of water, and let's start again...with love."
