This Grateful Season - Red Cups

When I lived on the East Coast, there was nothing that signified the Fall season more than the appearance of pumpkin spice lattes at Starbucks. Living in Boston as a broke student, I relished the treat of a steaming hot PSL as I trudged from one class to another in the wet, wintry snow mess that is New England. Now that I live in LA, I find myself longing for the crisp, cool air, crackling leaves, and earlier darkness that signals the start of a hibernation period, of drawing in. Books, fireplaces, and seeing your breathe is tiny puffs as you walk. Of scarves and boots and a chance to slow down. I miss it all.But last week while I was in Boston, reality hit. The wind off the Charles River swatted me around, the freezing rain pierced straight through coat. Every muscle in my body tensed from the shivering cold. I didn't see the sun for 2 whole days. How the heck did I ever live there!?With all of that said, and rain in the forecast for LA this weekend, I'm grateful today for living where the sun shines and my energy is used to be with people and not for trudging through horizontal rain.Still, I can get a little taste of the Fall season each year when Starbucks PSL arrive (even if it is still 90 degrees in the Valley) and then another seasonal booster when the red cups arrive. As they did this week... **For the month of November, I’m posting something each day that I’m grateful for. It may be as long as an intricate post, as short as a quote, as simple as a link or as wordless as a photograph. A friend who knows all about Starbucks & Boston has joined up.
